Sheehy Montessori is dedicated to the goal of empowering students to become educated, concerned, active and aware citizens of the world. We believe in working with each child's unique strenghts, interests, and learning styles to inspire him or her to reach their highest potential.

We believe that the arts can be one road to achievement. We do not see them as a reward for high academic accomplishments, or a babysitter for those who have completed this years benchmarks. We acknowledge that many children who would not be considered "gifted" in academics may be "gifted" and learn best when concepts are introduced in an artistic or dramatic way.

We do not see reading, writing, and mathmatics as the way to later teach social studies, science and geography, instead we believe in the Montessori Theory of Sensitive Periods and use social studies, science and geography to promote and enhance reading and writing.
We at Sheehy Montessori do not gripe about standards and benchmarks, instead we see them as curriculum guides. Individual Workplans are designed for each child, (either daily or weekly depending on the age and need of the child), so that each student is continuously working on his or her "maximum plane of development", while working towards, or surpassing district benchmarks, standards and tests.
