The Sierra Club Junior Rangers is an after school environmental science Club offered to all students K -5 at Sheehy Elementary School.

Sponcered by the Merced Chapter of the Sierra Club, the Junior Rangers meet thursday afternoons from 3:30 to 5:00pm during the school year.  There is one afternoon  and one  weekend field trip a month.

Although the immediate goal of the Junior Rangers is to foster a love of Nature and an understanding of environmental science, nature cycles, earth science and survival skills, we have found that club members have a greater understanding of science and social studies in general, participate more in other school activities, and have higher grades.

To introduce these topics to our students we use activities such as birding, hiking, caving,  tide pools exploration, swimming and rock climbing.
